At a global event filled with industry leaders and decision-makers, the West Virginia Polymer Alliance Zone (PAZ) took a different approach to standing out—by blending technology with relationship-building.

During the World Chemical Forum 2026, held March 25–26 in The Woodlands, Texas, PAZ introduced “ADAM,” an AI-powered robotic barista, as part of its engagement strategy. The result was a steady stream of visitors, conversations, and new connections with executives across the chemical and energy sectors.

The forum, presented by OPIS/Chemical Market Analytics, a Dow Jones company, brought together more than 650 attendees and featured over 100 speakers, making it a key venue for global industry dialogue—and competition for attention.

As a Foundational Sponsor, PAZ hosted the Connection Cafe, where ADAM served beverages while helping spark conversations about West Virginia’s advantages in polymer and chemical manufacturing.

“Economic development is still about relationships, but how you start those relationships matters,” said PAZ President Keith Burdette. “This gave us a memorable way to connect and begin conversations about why West Virginia is a strong choice for investment.”

Developed by Richtech Robotics, ADAM is designed for customer interaction and personalized service. PAZ used the technology not simply as a novelty, but as a strategic tool to draw in attendees and open the door to discussions around the region’s strengths—low-cost energy, access to feedstocks, a skilled workforce, and strong logistics connections.

“Our goal was to showcase West Virginia’s competitive advantages in a way that cuts through the noise,” said PAZ Vice President Pat Ford. “It created real opportunities to engage directly with companies exploring growth and expansion.”

The Polymer Alliance Zone spans 10 counties along the Ohio River and represents one of the nation’s most strategic regions for polymer and chemical manufacturing. With access to natural gas resources from the Marcellus and Utica shale formations and proximity to major markets, the region continues to attract industry interest.

By combining innovation with a focus on relationships, PAZ delivered a clear message at this year’s forum: West Virginia is ready to compete—and ready to lead—in the next generation of manufacturing investment.
